Developing your case statement and fundraising strategies are important for the 2020 Nursing Innovations Fund. The COVID-19 crisis presents community challenges and offers unique opportunities for Action Coalitions to meet community needs that contribute to building a Culture of Health. In this webinar, we address those challenges and opportunities, offer technical support to help you frame a persuasive case statement, consider different funding streams, and develop strategies for ongoing relationship-building with funders that will position Action Coalition applicants for more sustainable funding opportunities.

Presenter Biographies: 

• Alexia Green, PhD, RN, FAAN, is professor of nursing and dean emeriti at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. She most recently served as a visiting professor at the University of New Mexico and as project director for the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Collaborative at UNM. Green also serves as a consultant to the Center to Champion Nursing in America where she works to advance the Campaign for Nursing’s Future across the U.S. She has been actively engaged in teaching systems leadership, quality improvement sciences, patient safety, and health policy leadership for many years. Her clinical background includes experiences in cardiac transplant intensive care, cardiac intensive care nursing, critical care nursing, flight nursing, and emergency nursing. Green’s academic work has focused primarily on state health policy initiatives. Green is a past Co-Chair of the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies Advisory Committee, working with a team of other nurse leaders to provide sound evidence based data for use in policy making by state legislators. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of and a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Leader Fellow (2001). Green is also a past president of the Texas Nurses Association and a founding member of the Texas Nursing Education Policy Coalition, Texas Nursing Legislative Policy Coalition, the Texas Patient Safety Alliance and the Texas Team Advancing Health through Nursing. She has led multiple community and statewide coalitions during her career, including obtaining grant funding for these initiatives with agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
• Lisa J. Sundean, PhD, MHA, RN, is an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston, past director of the Connecticut Nursing Collaborative-Action Coalition, and consultant for the Center to Champion Nursing in America. Her scholarship focuses on nurses’ impact on board leadership and policy, and nursing workforce development. She is co-leader of the Nurses on Boards Coalition Impact Work Group, a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, a Jonas Leadership Scholar alumna, and serves on several boards of directors. She earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Connecticut
