North Carolina Nurses on Boards
North Carolina’s own, Connie Mullinix, PhD, MBA, MPH, RN and AnnMarie Walton, PhD, RN, OCN, CHES, are doing great work in the state to contribute to the Nurses on Boards Coalition and Action Coalitions’ national goal of achieving 10,000 nurses on boards by 2020. In their work, they have found how essential nurses are to hospital boards in efforts to, not only improving health of the patients, but also to improving the financial health of healthcare facilities. They have also highlighted the unique contribution and perspective nursing can make to local community boards. A 2015 survey found that a mere 5% of hospital boards have active nurse members.
