Veterans Administration Considers Designating APRNs as Independent Practitioners
The Veterans Administration (VA) is considering a proposal that would require that all Advanced Practice Registered Nurses(APRNs) be designated as independent practitioners, regardless of the regulations set up by each state, according to an article in the January 2014 issue of U.S. Medicine. Currently, VA APRNs often have to change the way they practice based on location, even when treating the same patient, because of varying rules concerning prescriptive authority, admissions, and physician supervision.
