Many Action Coalitions are advancing work in the development and implementation of transition to practice programs. The Future of Nursing:  Leading Change and Advancing Health described the importance of structured programs for new nurse graduates. Evidence shows these programs enhance safety and quality of care, as well as reducing employee turnover.  Health care organizations across the U.S. need alternatives which are high quality and cost effective.  This webinar was the first in a two-part series to discuss progress and share information.

This webinar was an introduction and overview of work in progress. This session featured the online modular program under development in Iowa, and the work underway in New Jersey, which emphasizes residencies to long term care settings.

The Nurse Residency Task Force in the Iowa Action Coalition has developed a competency-based curriculum for a nurse residency program that can be completed using online tools. The modules include scenarios to help the residents apply concepts in different settings, such as long term care facilities, acute care, and home health.
